Because of our experience you won’t be let down!
BOOK A CLEANERKensington Cleaners is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public affected by our cleaning activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks, preventing accidents and maintaining safe standards across all cleaning services delivered at client premises.
Health and safety is an integral part of how we operate. We actively promote a positive safety culture and expect everyone working with or for Kensington Cleaners to take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.
The main objectives of this Health and Safety Policy are to:
Identify, assess and control risks associated with cleaning tasks, equipment and substances used in our work.
Provide and maintain safe systems of work, including suitable equipment, materials and personal protective equipment.
Deliver appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision to employees so that they can work safely and competently.
Prevent accidents, work-related ill health, and damage to property or the environment.
Ensure that health and safety responsibilities are clearly defined, communicated and regularly reviewed.
Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and recognised industry standards applicable to professional cleaning activities.
Senior management at Kensington Cleaners is responsible for implementing this policy and ensuring adequate resources are provided to manage health and safety effectively. This includes:
Setting clear safety standards and reviewing performance periodically.
Ensuring that risk assessments are carried out for all relevant cleaning activities and that control measures are implemented and monitored.
Providing appropriate training, supervision and information for all staff and contractors engaged in cleaning work.
Ensuring that all equipment and cleaning products used are suitable for their intended purpose and maintained in a safe condition.
Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Every employee of Kensington Cleaners has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of other people who may be affected by their actions at work. Employees are expected to:
Follow all safety procedures, training and instructions provided by the company and by client sites.
Use equipment, materials and personal protective equipment correctly and only for their intended purpose.
Report any hazards, faulty equipment, unsafe conditions or practices to their supervisor without delay.
Immediately report all accidents, incidents and near misses, regardless of severity.
Cooperate with management in the implementation of this policy and any associated safety arrangements.
Risk assessments are conducted for all significant cleaning tasks, including the use of chemicals, operation of machinery, working at height, manual handling and work in client premises outside normal hours. These assessments identify potential hazards and specify measures to reduce risks to an acceptable level.
Safe systems of work and method statements are developed where appropriate. These set out step by step procedures for carrying out tasks safely, including the correct selection and use of equipment, safe access and egress, and emergency arrangements.
Kensington Cleaners uses cleaning chemicals and products in a controlled and responsible manner. All substances are assessed for their health and safety risks before use.
Key principles include:
Using the least hazardous product that will achieve the required cleaning standard.
Ensuring all containers are clearly labelled and stored securely when not in use.
Providing staff with clear instructions on dilution, application, contact times and safe disposal of cleaning solutions.
Requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment when handling or applying chemicals, as specified in product safety data.
Ensuring good ventilation where chemicals are used and preventing the mixing of incompatible substances.
All cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor machines, carpet extractors and other tools, is selected and maintained with safety in mind. Equipment is inspected regularly and removed from service if found to be defective.
Employees receive training and guidance before using any equipment and are required to follow the manufacturer instructions and company procedures. Cables and leads are managed to avoid trip hazards and electrical equipment is used with appropriate precautions.
Manual handling tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling are common in cleaning work and can cause injury if not performed correctly. Kensington Cleaners reduces manual handling risks by:
Providing trolleys and other aids to move equipment and materials where possible.
Training staff in safe lifting techniques and the importance of assessing loads before moving them.
Organising work in a way that minimises repetitive or awkward movements and allows for adequate rest breaks.
Our staff often work on client premises, including offices, residential buildings and commercial sites. When working on site, employees must observe both Kensington Cleaners procedures and any additional safety requirements specified by the client.
This includes:
Signing in and out where required and following local emergency procedures.
Keeping work areas tidy and ensuring that warning signs are used when floors are wet or when cleaning operations could present a hazard.
Respecting restricted areas, security requirements and any site specific induction or briefing.
Kensington Cleaners provides personal protective equipment appropriate to the tasks undertaken, such as gloves, eye protection, masks or protective footwear. Employees must wear and look after this equipment in accordance with their training and report any damage or defects promptly so that replacements can be provided.
The company recognises the importance of welfare and wellbeing. Reasonable access to washing facilities, drinking water and rest breaks is ensured in conjunction with client site arrangements. We encourage employees to raise any health concerns that may affect their work so that appropriate support or adjustments can be considered.
Health and safety training is provided at induction and refreshed as necessary, particularly when new equipment, substances or working methods are introduced. Toolbox talks and briefings are used to keep safety issues at the forefront of daily operations.
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated when required to reflect changes in legislation, working practices or company structure. Any revisions are communicated to employees and, where appropriate, to clients.
By implementing this policy and promoting a culture of shared responsibility, Kensington Cleaners aims to ensure that all cleaning services are delivered safely, efficiently and with due care for the health and wellbeing of everyone involved.
